Getting Started

Managing Domains

Add, verify and organize every domain connected to your SMTP Zen plan.

Domains tell SMTP Zen which messages belong to your account. One primary domain comes with the subscription automatically, and you can add more as allowed by your plan.

Adding a domain

  1. Open Plan Manager → Domains.
  2. Click Add Domain.
  3. Please remember to verify your domain ownership by adding the TXT record shown in the modal. This record needs to be added to your DNS provider before you can continue.
  4. Enter the root domain (no mail subdomain) and submit (ex. example.com).
  5. Click Add Domain.

We populate the list instantly so you can start configuring mailboxes right away. Each domain card shows a DNS status badge and, when records are missing, a Configure DNS button will appear so you can open the guided DNS setup. In that particular modal, you will find exact instructions on how to add the missing records.

Configuring DNS

  • In the domain card click Configure DNS to launch the guided setup. It walks you through verification TXT, MX, SPF, DMARC and DKIM, with copy buttons for each value.
  • The built-in DNS checker runs on every step and updates the badge/popup on the domain card so you know which records still need attention.
  • Hit Refresh in the modal after you publish records at your DNS provider. Mailboxes stay blocked until the checker marks the domain as ready.
  • Need the full list? Use View DNS records from the domain menu to see every published entry.
  • Getting to DNS settings at popular providers:
    • Cloudflare: Log in → Select the target domain → DNS → Records.
    • GoDaddy: Log in → Domains → choose the domain → DNS → DNS records.
    • Namecheap: Log in → Domain List → Manage on the domain → Advanced DNS.
    • Spaceship: Log in → Domains → Domain Manager → Choose the domain → DNS & Nameservers → Advanced DNS.
    • Route 53 (AWS): AWS console → Route 53 → Hosted zones → pick the zone → Records.
    • OVH: Log in → Web Cloud → Domains → select the domain → DNS zone.
    • Gandi: Log in → Domains → select the domain → DNS Records.

DKIM Record for Increased Security and Deliverability

DKIM is a security feature that protects your email from spoofing. And it also helps prevent phishing attacks. Find the DKIM host and value in the Configure DNS modal (DMARC/DKIM step) or in View DNS records, then publish it with your DNS provider.

Removing a domain

Secondary domains can be removed after you confirm the warning prompt. The primary domain tied to the subscription cannot be deleted; contact support if you truly need it moved to another plan.

Best practices

  • Keep at least one spare mailbox on each domain so you can test inbound delivery.
  • Delete unused domains to free up allotments for new projects.
  • When onboarding a domain with heavy traffic, create a backup first so you can roll back misconfigurations quickly.
