Backing Up Your Account

Use the built-in backups manager to capture, download, and restore your SMTP Zen data.

Backups give you a safety net before major edits or migrations. SMTP Zen includes a full-account backup tool inside the Plan Manager so you can snapshot every domain, mailbox, and forwarder without worries.

Open the backups manager

  1. Sign in and open the Client Area.
  2. Locate your subscription and click Plan Manager.
  3. In the Domains tab, choose Manage Backups from the header actions.

The modal lists any previously created backups along with their filenames and timestamps.

Create a new backup

  • Click Backup all domains.
  • Confirm the prompt - this queues a full account snapshot on the server. You can close the modal while it runs.
  • Refresh the list after a few minutes to see the new entry.

Each backup contains everything on the server at that moment: mailboxes, domains, forwarders, and configuration.

Restore when needed

  1. In the list, click Restore next to the backup you want to roll back to.
  2. Confirm the warning - restores overwrite current data.
  3. Wait for the confirmation notice. The job runs in the background, so you can close the modal and check back later.

Restores apply to the entire account; you cannot restore individual domains or mailboxes.

Delete old backups

If you no longer need a snapshot, use the delete action beside it. Removing unused backups keeps the list tidy and saves storage on your plan.

Best practices

  • Run a backup before deleting domains, removing multiple mailboxes, or performing large migrations.
  • Keep at least one recent backup downloaded locally in case you ever need to leave SMTP Zen.
  • Remove outdated backups after you confirm newer ones work, so you always know which file is current.

Keeping backups current means you can experiment freely, knowing there is always a way back.
